Brain Respiration
Brain Respiration Calisthenics are a series of carefully chosen movements designed to relax the body and mind in DahnHak by releasing tension in muscles and joints. The pulling and stretching motion of these exercises stimulates the meridian system of the body and facilitates the free flow of energy throughout the body. Developed by Korean spiritual leader Ilchi Lee, brain respiration is a “system of brain-based meditation techniques and physical exercises that seek to awaken the deepest potential of the human brain.” His message might be summed up best by one of his sayings: “Change your brain and you can change your life.”
Lee says that with his training, a person can decrease stress, use more of the brain than the standard 10 percent and learn to discard negative, hard-wired emotions and habits. Adherents say this isn’t just another fad. They say the proof is the people who leave healthier and happier after practicing it.
Through conscious practice of Brain Respiration, you will develop a ” Power Brain,” a brain characterized as peaceful, creative, and productive. Brain Respiration trains the brain using three interrelated and distinct elements:
1. Physical Coordination Exercises for the physical body
2. Energy Movement Exercises for the mind
3. Awareness Expanding Exercises for the spiritual body.
The ultimate goal of Brain Respiration is to elevate human awareness to the level of conscious mastery over all aspects of its existence. The many concrete benefits of Brain Respiration include: enhanced health, brightened outlook, increased creativity and innovation, heightened academic capability, and improved ability to interact harmoniously with others.
Yoga and Healing
Yoga studios are springing up in many cities all over the world to cater to the demand by yoga beginners in the midst of the current economic downturn that is characterized by daily stress, fatigue and pollution. More and more people are taking up yoga classes to seek that elusive sense of relaxation, comfort and inward consciousness. It has provided them with a refuge away from the daily confusion and yielded benefits useful to their practical daily lives. The benefits of yoga is that it is therapeutic both physically and mentally and it conditions the mind and body. It also creates balance and relaxes the mind and body, by freeing the spirit and sharpens mental concentration and awareness.
In practicing yoga, practitioners will attain a sense of centeredness, grace and coordination. Unlike other forms of exercise like aerobics or jogging, yoga when done correctly does not cause any strain or injury and has no negative effects. For beginners, it is recommended that the presence and direction of a qualified yoga teacher is sought before fully practicing yoga on one’s own.
I started taking yoga as a means of stress management and it changed my life. I improved in body, mind and spirit. I went through various programs and training including Brain Respiration classes and Healer School through my local Dahn yoga center. I learned how to work with children and adults using a combination of Yoga, Tai Chi, Qui Gong, and relaxation techniques. I enjoy working with children and adults of all ages both individually and in small groups. Healing the body, mind, and spirit is very rewarding.
